Kingdom Rise, Kingdom Fall.

TIMELINESS:  Addressing issues of faith, diversity, freedom, community and prophecy, Kingdom Rise, Kingdom Fall captures a turbulent awakening now rippling across North America and the Caribbean. Thus revealed is a time when there is widespread evidence of secular society getting religious and a reemergence of faith in politics; a time when faith is climbing the record charts as some artists are leaving the church of cool for the house of God; a time when the new counterculture is a Christian movement with music, clothes and alternative churches of its own.

BACKGROUND: A groundbreaking two-day conference, hosted by The Divinity School, Harvard University, under the auspices of the Boston Theological Institute, and entitled Kingdom Rise, Kingdom Fall was an unprecedented immersion in the world of Afro-Caribbean culture. It is the basis for a new edutainment (mixing education with entertainment) utilizing spoken word, musical performance and commentary. Bringing together people united by a love of music’s ability to move the spirit, the original Kingdom Rise…combined a weekend academic conference with two rousing concerts/church events. Once more, it tackled such questions as: Why the current upsurge in gospel music? What are the connections between Christian music, American soul, gospel, R & B, reggae, soca and calypso? Is there a religious revival underway in the Caribbean, its effects rippling to New England shores?

ARTISTS/GUESTS: We have gathered an impressive array of performers and speakers whose words engage, inform, uplift and inspire listeners. These include Sister Judy Mowatt, Jamaica’s Queen of Soul; Denroy Morgan Denroy Morgan; the Morgan Heritage, Jamaica’s first family of reggae; folk artist Abijah; Elder Hugh White and Gospel Unlimited; Niah Binghi Boppa Choir and Harvard sociologist Dr. Orlando Patterson, among others.

MARKETING:  We are offering broadcast rights and licensing for a two-hour television special entitled Kingdom Rise, Kingdom Fall. Also available is DVD/CD sales, as well as the implementation of an educational on-line curriculum for secondary and college students. This is being done in collaboration with the Boston Theological Institute and its member schools, in particular Harvard Divinity School and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary; and the Berklee School of Music. Kingdom Rise… has a built-in receptivity within a nationwide network of media and youth due to the recent surge of evangelical Christianity. Furthermore, this two-hour feature challenges contemporary sit-com/film stereotypes of blacks, emphasizing social consciousness and responsibility, dispelling Hollywood’s distorted notions about black life and reality.
